There are very few names more associated with great Nigerian art than Bruce Onobrakpeya. The revered artist and scholar is a household  name whose works are taught in schools all over the country. And now he is debuting a fresh collection of incredible artworks. The exhibition, tagged “Facade” began on Saturday the 12th of December at the Art Twentyone Gallery in Lagos, and will last till the 10th of April next year.

The exhibition showcases artworks that trace the artist’s creative metamorphosis. According to Art Twentyone’s website, “the exhibits reveal ideas that have been tested and executed decades ago and in their new nature, now inculcate contemporary fragments. They are a synthesis of fabric, prints and found objects that serve as a base for colour which is the fundamental element of an Onobrakpeya painting.”

Among the first guests at the opening of the exhibition was another icon of Nigerian art, celebrated Nobel prize winning author Woke Soyinka.
