The 63rd Grammy event finally held Sunday night since being rescheduled from January, and music fans around the world erupted as the winners emerged. There were new winners, record breakers, and of course, vicious debate and controversy.
On an historical night for women’s music, Queen B (BeyoncΓ©) broke her own record with the addition of two more Grammy awards to her collection, bringing her total at present to 28 Grammy awards. Safe to say her continuous outstanding performance and impact in the global music sphere will only continue to grow. Nigerian artists Wizkid and Burna Boy were one of new names on the Grammy roll of winners, alongside BeyoncΓ©’s young daughter Blue Ivy, whose podium finish came from her role in the music video for her superstar mother’s song “Brown Skin Girl”, co-written and performed by Wizkid. For Burna Boy especially, winning the award for global music album of the year for his album titled ” Twice As Tall” must have brought a deeper sense of satisfaction and achievement than most, a worthy reward for his persistence after losing out on the same prize to Angelique Kidjo last year.
American singer Billie Eilish made history as the first soloist in this century to win the Record of the year award twice in a row.
Like every other Grammy Award event before now, the 2021 Grammy award show was full of scintilating performances from A-list music artists. Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Taylor Swift, RoddyRich, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, BTS, Da baby, Doja cat, Lil baby, Chris Martin, Post Malone, Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert, Brittany Howard, Black Puma, Brandi CaGrrlile, Mickey Guyton and Haim all performed to the awe of attendees and viewers across the globe.
