When injustice and impunity overwhelm a society, nothing and no one is spared. Nigeria has for too long been overburdened by injustice and flagrant disregard for the rule of law, and the time has come to act.
As a publication operating in and out of Nigeria, we at L’avis Magazine have been just as affected as everyone else by the scourge of criminality that has overtaken the Nigerian Police system, evinced in its most vicious form by the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
We share the pains and terror carried by Nigerian creatives who have seen their civil rights ignored in their day to day pursuits, their hard-earned monies and properties forfeited to the hands of a Police unit that has assumed the practices of the criminals they were brought in to combat. Lives have been taken, livelihoods forfeited, properties confiscated, creativity staunched, and justice denied at every turn.
The people have been ignored, now the people have found their voice. We join our voice with theirs as they demand -not request- for immediate, pragmatic and transformational reform of the police system, the first step of which is the total and permanent disbandment of the criminal cartel that is the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
Nigeria does have hope for a great and successful future. That hope is the youth of the nation. We urge the government of our Leader, President Muhammadu Buhari, to show that he believes that too.
